George Selvie waited until his junior year to have a sophomore slump, but he'll need a stellar final season if USF wants to crash the BCS.
Call me crazy, but I think this could be the year for South Florida. The Secondary should be top notch. Matt Grothe is pretty much never out of the game. You’d have to see some of what he’s done to believe it. And, the lynch pin, George Selvie, should be in a for another spectacular year. Of course, all three will have to work together to overcome an absent ground game. And if the secondary is really going to thrive, they’ll need Selvie to bring the heat like he did as a sophomore. But, I think they can do it. Who’s going to stop them? West Virginia will really feel the heat of losing Pat White. Louisville is a few years away. And Cincinnati? I just don’t see it all coming together for them again.
Anyway, if we were going off of pure numbers here, Pitt and Rutgers would be the early favorites. They each placed five guys on the team. USF wasn’t far off. They had four. Grothe, Selvie, Jerome Murphy and Nate Allen (both DBs). West Virginia, Louisville, UConn, and (surprise) Syracuse all finished in a tie for third. They’ve all got two representitives, though that’s about right. Cincinnati’s future doesn’t look too bright on paper, with only Marshawn Gilyard on the first team. Of course, no one expected them to reach the Orange Bowl last year when they had mroe than a few unknowns. This time, it’s South Florida’s turn to make a few stars.
