Mike’s Round 3

ROUND 3

HUNTER’S MOCK

65.) STL — Mardy Gilyard, WR/KR, Cincinnati

The Rams got their QB of the future and they need to find him a solid weapon here.

66.) DET — Brandon Ghee, CB, Wake Forest

If the Lions were raving about Ghee at the Senior Bowl and there is no way they let him go if he falls this far.

67.) TB — Amari Spievey, CB, Iowa

The last two years we have seen an Iowa corner fall to the early third. Bradley Fletcher went 2nd in third round in 2009, while Charles Godfrey went 4th in the third in 2008. Spievey is a player that some have a 1st round grade on, but also a player that might take a fall.

68.) KC — Carlton Mitchell, WR, USF

The Chiefs need to find some WR depth in the draft and Carlton Mitchell is a giant athlete who’s stock is exploding right now.

69.) OAK — Dorin Dickerson, ATH, Pittsburgh

Dorin Dickerson ran a great 40-time at the combine as a TE despite weighing the same as a big receiver. Dickerson is a good enough athlete to be moved to TE, receiver, or somewhere on defense that Al Davis may like.

70.) PHI (from SEA) — Jonathon Dwyer, RB, Georgia Tech

A very goofy offense and a below average 40-time have hurt Dwyer’s stock, but the Eagles need to find big running weapons for the team to play with.

71.) CLE — Dexter McCluster, DEX, Mississippi

Darren McFadden can be nicknamed “Run DMC” all he wants, but Dexter McCluster is going to be nicknamed “Run, Catch, Throw, Seek, Destroy DMC” and somebody is going to take a chance on him in the draft. McCluster keeps getting comparisons to Percy Harvin and Leon Washington, but he is such a new breed of player that he can only be named a DEX. During the Senior Bowl week McCluster showed a ton of speed, he showed that he can run great routes, and he showed that he can break away and catch the ball well. The Browns could use an extra RB and an extra WR so this seemed like an intriguing place for him to fall to.

72.) BUF — Kyle Calloway, OT, Iowa

The team didn’t get Bulaga in the first but they get a very similar player in Kyle Calloway who filled in on the blindside for nearly half of the 2010 season.

73.) MIA — Jason Worrilds, OLB, Virginia Tech

The Dolphins lost both of their starting rush linebackers and this is a huge need to go forward with. The team should re-sign Jason Taylor, but they seem to be hesitant about having an aging veteran that got seven sacks last season.

74.) JAX — JD Walton, C, Baylor

The Jags really need to find a new center and J.D. Walton is a starting quality talent who may be able to get the nod on opening day.

75.) CHI — Jason Fox, OT, Miami

The Bears have no picks in the first two rounds and if they don’t take an OT here in the 3rd they may want to look to draft a QB.

76.) NYG — Myron Rolle, S, FSU

The Giants may look towards some OL help here, but Myron Rolle will help to add some huge depth here.

77.) TEN — Dominique Franks, CB, Oklahoma

A.J. Edds is one of the most underrated players in the draft and Tennessee get’s a steal here.

78.) CAR — [D’Anthony Smith], DT, LA Tech

The Panthers need to find a ton of depth in their DL if they want to have any chance of competing again in their division.

79.) SF — Donovan Warren, CB, Michigan

The 49ers need to find a full time corner sometime early on in the draft and Donovan Warren was one of the five best corners going into the combine.

80.) DEN — Jamar Chaney, MLB, Mississippi State

One of the bigger needs for the Broncos is MLB and Jamar Chaney is considered to be one of the safer ones to take.

81.) HOU — Toby Gerhart, RB, Stanford

Shonn Greene tore it up in the playoffs for the Jets and some team will fall in love with the potential of a power running back. Gerhart and Slaton will be a cute couple together that will help to tear it up in the South.

82.) PIT — Torrell Troup, NT, UCF

This might be just a little early for Troup, but the Steelers have to find a NT option early in this draft.

83.) ATL — Dekoda Watson, LB, FSU

The Falcons took a LDE in the 1st round and they need to find a solid LB to solidify the defense.

84.) CIN — Mike Williams, WR, Syracuse (sort of)

The Bengals need to find more youth and depth for Carson Palmer if they plan on competing any time soon. Mike Williams has come out and said that he’ll be a first round pick, which sounds a lot like Michael Johnson (DE) last year. He also found himself on the Bengals.

85.) CLE (from NE) — Aaron Hernandez, TE, Florida

Hernandez is a great talent at tight end and instantly should compete with Ben Watson for the starting spot. A tight end is a rookie QB’s best friend and there he was Tim Tebow’s best friend for years.

86.) GB — Anthony Dixon, RB, Mississippi State

The Packers need to find some power and talent to ease pressure off the passing game, and Dixon is a player with four years of experience in the SEC while averaging 1,000 yards and ten scores. He can also catch the ball too if that wasn’t enough.

87.) PHI — Mitch Petrus, OG, Arkansas

Mitch Petrus is a monster of a guard and he will add a ton of strength and depth to the OL.

88.) ARI (from BAL) — Thaddeus Gibson, DE/LB, Ohio State

Even with the addition of Joey Porter the Cardinals could use some LB depth and Gibson is a great athlete with a ton of upside.

89.) ARI — Brandon Spikes, MLB, Florida

The team let Karlos Dansby leave the team and now one of the most glaring needs is at MLB. Spikes has tried to completely throw away his draft stock this offseason, but I don’t know that his tape will take him out of the third or fourth round.

90.) DAL — Reshad Jones, S, Georgia

The Cowboys really need to get some safety help soon and Reshad Jones is a pretty good player to help with that.

91.) SD — Joe McKnight, RB, USC

The Chargers need to get one or two running backs from this draft and Joe McKnight is a great fit for the team. McKnight has a lot more power than Darren Sproles, is capable of carrying the

92.) CLE (from NYJ) — Major Wright, S, Florida

If the Browns think that they can get through another season without safety help then they are crazy. This pick also helps to justify taking Jimmy Clausen over Eric Berry.

93.) MIN — Linval Joseph, DT/NT, ECU

The Williams Wall is dominant, but needs some youth in depth in it to fill the cracks.

94.) IND — [Dan LeFevour], QB, Central Michigan

A lot of Colt fans hated this pick in my last mock, but I have to stick with it. LeFevour is a great value here and the team cannot really think of Curtis Painter as a solid backup. The team doesn’t need a starting QB and there is no arguing that, but if Manning goes down in the season it is hard to see them winning many games.

95.) NO — A.J. Edds, OLB, Iowa

Even if the Saints grab an OLB in the first two rounds they still may need to look hard at one in the third.

96.) CIN (COMP) — Tony Washington, OT, Abiline Christian

All jokes aside about Washington going to the Bengals (Washington sort of had a Big Ben + Jerry Spring situation) because he is a solid value here.

97.) TENN (COMP) — Darrell Stuckey, S, Kansas

Remember last year when Tom Brady put up 45 touchdowns against the Titans. Hopefully they remember that when they are drafting.

98.) ATL (COMP) — Andre Roberts, WR, Citadel

The Falcons need wide receiver depth and Andre Roberts is a very solid talent for the end of the 3rd round.

Like the Worilds pick, I think it’s very possible if he’s available.
