Round 4

ROUND 1 ROUND 2 ROUND 3 ROUND 4 ROUND 5 ROUND 6 ROUND 7

round4

1 (96).  STL — Roddrick Muckelroy, OLB, Texas

Serious need for an upgrade at outside backer needed here. Muckelroy really came on as a senior and fits well in this defense.

2 (97).  DET — Kyle Jolly, OT, UNC

Yeah, this seems high to a lot of people, I’m sure, but Jolly is supremely underrated.  His career has seen him start against and dominate some seriously high NFL draft picks (Calais Campbell, Chris Long, etc.).

3 (98).  TB — Willie Young, DE, NC State

Might end up better than third round pick, Selvie.  This team needs more than one option as a pass rusher heading into camp.

4 (99).  KC — Torrell Troup, NT, UCF

Another underrated guy who is just now starting to make waves.  Could end up going much higher than this, but for now KC gets a great nose tackle.  They should be happy to have one at all.

5 (100).  WAS — Ciron Black, OT, LSU

Daniel Snyder likes big names and he needs to do more to protect his new investment at QB.  Black has all the talent, but needs motivation to flourish.

6 (101).  SEA — Colt McCoy, QB, Texas

I know, he doesn’t seem like a Pete Carroll QB, but he did seem mighty high on him at the National Championship game and Seattle needs a young QB to groom behind Hasselbeck.  Who knows, McCoy may end up shocking us all.

7 (102).  CLE — Major Wright, S, Florida

The Browns need a better class of safety.  Wright’s stock is all over the place, but in the fourth round he’s a good gamble for a team with this many picks.

8 (103).  OAK — Tyson Alualu, DT, Cal

He’s big, he’s fast, he’s from California.  Al Davis is already whipping out the autograph book.

9 (104).  BUF — Jevan Snead, QB, Ole Miss

He’s nowhere near the first round pick I predicted he’d be before the season (good call on that one, dumbass), but he does have all the physical tools to play in Buffalo.  Chan Gailey needs to get his guy in this draft.

10 (105).  JAX — Dekoda Watson, OLB, FSU

The Jags have to find someone better on the outside of their linebacker corps.  Watson is a local-ish talent that possesses the typical speed, ferocity, and athleticism of FSU backers.

11 (106).  CHI — Jermaine Cunningham, DE, Florida

The last time the Bears took an undersized pass rushing defensive end from Florida it worked out pretty well.

12 (107).  MIA — Sean Lee, ILB, Penn State

If Lee checks out okay with the Dolphins’ doctors, he’ll be a great pick here.  They need help inside, and Lee is a very productive guy with good character and work ethic.

13 (108).  TEN — AJ Edds, OLB, Iowa

The Titans are going to have to upgrade their LB corps.  They’ve got age and talent problems there that can’t wait.  Edds might be the best pure 4-3 Strongside backer in the class.

14 (109).  CAR — Tony Pike, QB, Cincinnati

I think the Panthers are content to let Matt Moore give it a go for an entire season, but it’d be lazy to ignore the need for some competition.  Pike can push Moore.

15 (110).  SF — Thaddeus Gibson, OLB, Ohio State

The Niners are getting a guy that people either love or hate as a prospect, but I think Gibson can thrive in a pass-rushing role, which would be a welcome site to San Fran.

16 (111).  DEN — Dan LeFevour, QB, CMU

The Broncos are going to find a QB of some sort in this draft.  McDaniels is dying to develop his own guy, and while Orton can hold the torch for another year or two, LeFevour seems like a perfect McDaniels guy, and really showed something at the Senior Bowl.  The Brandstater/Simms experiment should be over.

17 (112).  NYG — Ben Tate, RB, Auburn

Drafting Andre Brown didn’t work out for New York as he was injured before the season started and the ground game never got going. Tate is a perfect complementary back to Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw.

18 (113).  PIT — Jamar Chaney, ILB, Mississippi State

Age is starting to become a real factor for the Steelers on the inside of the 3-4.  Chaney is a tough, hard-nosed guy who fits like a glove.

19 (114).  ATL — Rennie Curran, OLB, Georgia

Mike Peterson really wore down on the weakside last season.  Curran is undersized, but he’s athletic and quick enough to fit in the 4-3.  Plus, he’s a UGA guy, and the Falcons tend to grab at least one of them every year.

20 (115).  HOU — Rafael Priest, CB, TCU

If the Texans are ever going to get past the Colts, they’ll need to acquire more depth and talent in the secondary.  Good cover corner here.

21 (116).  NE — Zane Beadles, OL, Utah

The Pats need to get younger and better up front.  It’s not a horrible group, but upgrading is a must.  Beadles can inject some youth and versatility as he can play guard or tackle.

22 (117).  CIN — Rob Gronkowski, TE, Arizona

The Bengals can’t be content with JP Foschi.  Or really any other TE on the roster.  Gronko could end up being a top NFL tight end if he recovers well from his back injury.  He’s extremely talented.

23 (118).  PHI — Zac Robinson, QB, Oklahoma State

Right now they have a wealth of QBs (McNabb, Kolb, Vick).  That’ll quickly turn into a sore spot if one or two of the three leave.  Robinson is a smart QB that has better NFL tools than expected.  He fits this offense.

24 (119).  GB — Pat Angerer, ILB, Iowa

Hard to have too many LBs in Dom Capers’ 3-4 defense.  They could use some competition on the inside from a blue collar guy like Angerer.

25 (120).  BAL — Darrell Stuckey, S, Kansas

I think I’m a lot lower on Stuckey than most, but even I can see the value of picking him up in the fourth.  Baltimore falls apart without Ed Reed.  They need a plan for the future.

26 (121).  ARI — Akwasi Owusu-Ansah

Big, rangy, athletic cornerback from a small school.  Sound familiar?  The Cards attempt to strike twice with these types of players.  It’s not like they started any real corners against New Orleans.

27 (122).  DAL — Myron Lewis, S, Vanderbilt

Finally, Dallas addresses the free safety position.  Lewis is a college corner, but he’ll likely be a better fit over the top in the NFL.  Should help Dallas beat the passing attacks in the NFC.

28 (123).  SD — Roger Saffold, OT, Indiana

The Chargers have to get stronger up front.  It’d be a waste of CJ Spiller if they didn’t upgrade here.  Maybe this will revive the ground game.

29 (124).  PHI — Patrick Stoudamire, CB, Western Illinois

Cornerback is suddenly a position of need for a team that looked pretty set at the start of the season.  Sheldon Brown is getting old, and Ellis Hobbs isn’t irreplaceable.

30 (125).  MIN — Jason Worrilds, DE, Va Tech

The Vikings get kind of a luxury pick here.  Ray Edwards may not be back, and while Worrilds likely won’t play LE in the NFL, he can help keep the double teams off of Jared Allen.  Worst case, he can play some OLB.

31 (126).  IND — Mitch Petrus, OG, Arkansas

When one of your starters, one of the guys who protects Peyton freaking Manning is a former Arena 2 player, it’s time to do something.

32 (127).  NO — Anthony McCoy, TE, USC

Doesn’t appear to be a need at first glance, but Sean Payton is a sucker for upgrading the offensive skill positions.  Plus, this team really missed Jeremy Shockey when he went down, and he won’t be around forever.

The Dolphins have the #108th selection in the fourth round. (From Oakland for Samson Satelen. They swapped the fourths and the Phins got the Radiers round 6.). Might want to update it! Just a heads up.

I like the Anthony Davis, Donovan Warren & Norwood picks…but, instead of Pike with the Niners #3, I’d substitute Gerhart. Why? Nate Davis will most likely become their #2 QB during the off-season…moving Shaun Hill to #3. Gerhart would fill their enduring need for a power RB…they’ve struggled for a number of seasons with their short ydg game. He’d not only upgrade their corps of RB’s, but he’d be immensely popular w/Niner fans, given he’s a local hero already.

With all due respect to the selections you have for Detroit….are you serious??
They had the worst Defense in the league the past how many seasons…so with a chance to select some top end defensive talent you have them going offense with their first two picks just like last season….?? huh??
I could understand if you went DT first and then OT….but not sure if you have the pulse of the Lions. Seems like you are reading waaay to many message boards and the dislike for Backus….Detroit is in need of some Defense….big time….

I agree with JP, and I am one of the top Jeff Backus haters in Motown! You cannot seriously believe they would pass up two potential Pro Bowl DT’s in Suh and McCoy to fish for another OT? Backus is terrible, and Gosder Cherilous is still a little green, but if you really watched the Lions (a burden I share with JP, among few others!), they should, and had better, go defensive exclusively in this draft, and hopefully shore up their huge holes on the O-Line, and at RB, by bringing in some veteran FA’s in this uncapped year.
